Kwatee Description
In Kwatee, author R. Allen Downey creates a haunted world on the high seas that is as wicked as it is entertaining. With a robust prose and a fast pace, this novel stretches the boundaries of the imagination and proves to be a thrilling, intense ride. Set against a backdrop of extensively researched historical detail, Kwatee follows four strangers with unique paranormal powers on a quest to solve a supernatural mystery surrounding a haunted warship.

Branwen Morgan, a WWII shipyard welder and Wiccan priestess, senses something eerie about her latest assignment. During a clandestine midnight surveillance, she discovers an unknown, supernatural force assembling a new warship in blinding flashes of steel while night shift workers stand by mute, frozen in time, which leaves Branwen searching for answers.

After a record-setting build time, the Kwatee embarks on a fiendish voyage forged by its diabolical Captain Swan and his zombie-like crew. Wherever the Kwatee sails, destruction soon follows. As its wicked mission approaches zero hour, Kwatee lands in Hong Kong during the Korean War, where Branwen now lives with her husband, the local M16 British intelligence station head. Upon Kwatee's arrival, Brawen meets three other people with similar paranormal powers, two of which are Kwatee sailors who, evading Swan's mind-control, are able to chronicle the ship's most recent trail of gruesome deeds.

Racing against time, these four unite their diverse powers to uncover the deadly ship's secret and thwart its master's evil plan, but as they are drawn into the grisly plot of a madman, a terrifying battle between the powers of good and evil ensues.

Brimming with action, suspense, and historical highlights, Kwatee is certain to be a hit with history enthusiasts as well as fans of horror and adventure.

Kwatee Book Reviews

Definitely worth the read
From different cultures and life styles four individuals are brought together for a singular purpose that affects - for good or evil- the outcome of a significant event in history. This novel begins during WWII then jumps in time to the Korean War conflict. There appears to be a lot of historical info added to the story which made it all the more enticing for me. I have not checked the facts but if only a part of the information is correct that is still a lot of history. The passages concerning the main characters' past pulled me out of the story but after finishing the story I feel they are well placed to help the reader feel they know and understand the characters better. Though slow to begin R. Allen Downey picks up steam as the story line progresses and finishes with the story running at maximum capacity. Definitely worth the read. - Kersyn, Bitten By Books

Intriguing!
"...momentum builds up...it accelerates...it proves to be a most intriguing page-turner!" --Deepa Kandaswamy, a writer-columnist for ABC News, Christian Science Monitor, and Ms. based in India

I was intrigued.
…I was proud of the author for daring to mingle World War II events with Wicca (witchcraft), Vodun (voodoo) and a capable “Rosie the Riveter” main character, as well as presenting  fascinating naval history and wartime tidbits (Did Bob Hope really say that?)… I have never read anything quite like the beginning of this novel. An original tale of the supernatural educates and entertains… I was intrigued by the lengthy character development, relaxed pacing, and discussions of old religions. Attempting to give supernatural causes for war events was delightful, and the (sometimes graphic and rude) war talk, jibes, and slang were hilarious… the fast-paced action is masterfully written and the author continues to create absorbing settings, such as Hong Kong in the early 1950s. – Reader Views
